Uma R. Kunapareddy
Uma R. Kunapareddy is a financial crime investigation and data analytics professional with more than twelve years in anti-money laundering, regulatory compliance, risk assessment and data-driven investigation across international financial institutions. She holds an MBA in business analytics from New Jersey City University.
She has held specialist positions at Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC and Franklin Templeton, working on complex transaction monitoring, financial crime investigations, data validation and quality assurance, risk modelling and regulatory reporting across US, European and international banking operations. At Standard Chartered she worked on large-scale financial crime investigations, carried out detailed risk assessments, supported quality control, and gave technical guidance to colleagues. The work has been recognised with the GEM Award, the PRIDE Award and other performance distinctions.
She works in Python, SQL, Tableau and advanced Excel, with the particular strength being the unglamorous part: cleaning data, exploring it, finding the pattern that is actually there, and turning a large dataset into something somebody can act on. She holds professional certifications in anti-money laundering investigations, financial crime compliance and customer due diligence, alongside training in financial intelligence and investigative method.
As a Data Collection Associate at APYCF she brings that to nonprofit research: data collection, data quality assurance, stakeholder analysis and evidence-based programme development. Investigating financial crime and doing social research are not the same work, but they share the part that matters here — establishing what the data will and will not support, and saying so.
